Tidal power or tidal energy is the form of hydropower that converts the energy obtained from tides into useful forms of power, mainly electricity.. Although not yet widely used, tidal energy has the potential for future electricity are more predictable than the wind and the sources of renewable energy, tidal energy has traditionally suffered from relatively high cost. BTW, SDC tidal experts include the editor and one of the authors of the report on the Severn Barrage. In contrast, tidal lagoons are privately funded and cost of power estimates range from p/kWh (AEA Technology) to 6p/kWh (OFGEM).
